Cottingham Technical Services or CTS Process as it is often called is a young company fast establishing itself among the market leaders in the supply of mechanical handling and cereals processing equipment within the brewing and distilling industry.

Formed in 2011 by four engineers with a real passion to provide the best possible customer service within the industry and with combined experience of over 100 years three of them can trace their heritage back to the 1970’s as apprentices with Richard Sizer Limited at a time when “Sizers”, a company renowned for its engineering skills and expertise in the innovation and manufacture of animal feed compounding (pelleting) plant was itself growing by acquiring George Porteus and Sons Ltd of Leeds and Robert Boby Limited of Bury St Edmunds both of whom were established manufacturers and market leaders of malt and barley mills and in the case of Porteus also hammer mills or grinders as they were often known.

Sizers’ history can be dated back to its formation in the mid 19th century through to its takeover by Walden Engineering of Sheffield (later to become OSL Walden) in the early 90’s before subsequently being bought from Walden to become part of Briggs of Burton PLC, a world leader in the supply of brewing and distilling equipment.

All the above team members are very proud to suggest that they have either designed; project managed or installed many of the distillery and brewery dry goods plants which we visit today. Maltings and animal feed industries are also part of the skills bound in their experience.

Since 2011 CTS have provided many dry material handling solutions ranging from a single machine to total package including electrical works and software.

ATEX / DSEAR audits, implementation, LEV audits and aspiration systems have also played an important role in establishing Client’s confidence in CTS.

We soon achieved the ranks of being classified as an ISO 9001 accredited company and we are approved members of the Safe Contractor Scheme and CONCOM.

We started our in house fabrication facility in 2013 to give us direct control over our own manufacturing and are confident that with the service we can offer, this is an area of our business which will also grow with time. We have recently designed, manufactured and installed grist cases incorporating load cell systems, screw conveyors, belt conveyors and specialist fabrications.

Our enthusiasm and skills put together in research and development; resulted in the design and manufacture of our own malt mill.

Over the years we have seen, incorporated and built plants with machines from major suppliers such as Buhler, Redler (now part of Schenck Process Group), Guttridge, Cimbria, Perry, Seeger (now part of Buhler), Satake and many more, we take pride in having the independence of selecting the best machine for the process irrespective of the company but depending on the varying demands of the industry.

History is important to us all as it gives us the experience to build the future and it is our intention to ensure that the knowledge we have gained can be passed on through our apprenticeship programme. Having started as a team of four, to date we are now a team of 10 members including a trainee engineer.

Our commitment is to upholding the traditions that have shaped us and to ensure that CTS will in the future provide our industries with the best service, expertise and excellence that we can offer.
